Our Love Story

Back in college in 2004, Tom and Jie were just classmates sharing the same halls and passing through the same season of life. They belonged to different circles, different groups of friends, and for the most part, different worlds. There were no conversations, no shared memories, and no story beginning between them back then.

Tom barely noticed Jie at the time. Life simply moved forward the way it does for most young students—quietly, ordinarily, without signs of what was to come. There was only one small, almost forgotten moment: a teacher once teased them about their family names—Tom being associated with the famous boxer Nonito Donaire, and Jie with Michael Jordan. It was brief, lighthearted, and nothing more. Just a passing remark in a life neither of them knew would one day circle back on itself.

Years passed. Twenty-one of them.

Life took Tom and Jie across different paths, different countries, and different chapters. Until one day, through a mutual friend who had no idea they already knew each other from college, they were introduced again—this time not in a classroom, but through a message.

Tom messaged first.

Jie replied two weeks later.

And somehow, that slow reply became the beginning of something neither of them expected.

What followed was not rushed. It was not loud or dramatic. It was steady. Daily conversations slowly became routine. Messages turned into something they both looked forward to. Over time, what started as curiosity became comfort. And what began as reconnecting became something deeper—something that felt like home.

They lived in different parts of the world, but distance did not interrupt what was growing between them. Instead, it strengthened it. Through long-distance days and months apart, they built something anchored not in proximity, but in presence—emotional, consistent, real.

For Tom, Jie’s honesty stood out immediately. The way she speaks her mind, the way she sees life without pretense or hesitation. He fell in love with her frankness and her clarity. With her perspective on the world that felt both grounding and refreshing.

For Jie, it was Tom’s acceptance. The way he never asked her to be anything other than who she already was. His consistency became her peace. In him, she found someone steady—someone who showed up the same way every day, without confusion or conditions.

Their love was not expected. It was not planned. It was not even searched for.

It was an answered prayer.

A love that didn’t begin instantly in youth, but arrived at the exact moment it was meant to.

As they now stand together, they are not just two people who reconnected after 21 years. They are proof that timing can be part of love’s design—that sometimes, the right person is not new, but simply waiting for the right chapter.

And in their own words, they believe:

“Some love stories begin instantly. Ours took 21 years to find its perfect timing.”
