Our Love Story

His POV
It all began during a Valentine’s event at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), where having a partner for ValHop meant earning a ticket for “shore leave.” I took a chance and messaged this girl, asking her to be my partner. To my relief, she said yes, even though I wasn’t sure she would really come.

That day, the campus was filled with laughter, music, and cadets with their partners. I stood there in uniform, holding flowers, trying to blend in and look my best. I wasn’t expecting anything special—until I saw her.

She wasn’t trying to stand out, yet in the middle of the crowd, she felt like the only thing that made sense. Her simple smile and quiet presence stayed with me. That was the first time we met.

After that, everything changed. I began noticing her more in small ways, how she talked, how she smiled, and how she made ordinary moments feel lighter. My feelings slowly grew, and eventually, I gathered the courage to ask for her number. That simple step marked the real beginning of our connection.

We started talking regularly. At first, it was casual and careful, but over time, our conversations became something I always looked forward to. I soon realized that even a single message from her could change my entire day, no matter how tiring or difficult it was, she always had a way of making things feel better just by being there on my phone.

Eventually, I asked her out on a date, and I visited her in Baguio. Every moment felt surreal. I didn’t care where we went or even when she accidentally spilled coffee on my shirt. All that mattered was being with her. And just like that, we became a couple.

My first contract as a seafarer was the first time I truly left her behind. It was exciting but deeply lonely. A six-month contract felt endless, but every return made all the waiting worth it. This cycle continued each time I went back to sea.

Our love has been tested time and time again. My work as a seafarer often keeps me away for long periods, but distance, time zones, and day or night never became a barrier. We always find a way to stay connected. Through it all, she remained faithful, patient, supportive, and loyal, even when all she had was my voice through a phone.

And with everything we have been through, after Seven years, I have come to the clearest decision of my life: to step into the next chapter and marry my first, my last, and my forever.
